Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Brown ground beef in the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain off any excess fat.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until slightly thickened.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and parsley (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with a layer of cooked lasagna noodles. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles. Add another layer of meat sauce.
  7. Repeat layers of noodles, ricotta cheese mixture, and meat sauce, ending with a layer of noodles and meat sauce. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella cheese over the top.
  8. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let lasagna stand for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
  10. Tips:
  11. For a richer flavor, use a combination of ground beef and Italian sausage in the meat sauce.
  12. If you don't have fresh parsley, you can use 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley.
  13. Leftover lasagna can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
