Dal Dhokli is a traditional Gujarati dish that is both delicious and easy to make. It is a perfect blend of flavors and textures, with the soft and pillowy dhoklas complementing the flavorful dal perfectly. This dish is often served with steamed rice or roti, making it a complete and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Prepare the dal: In a pressure cooker, combine the soaked toor dal with 4 cups of water, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, peanuts, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and asafoetida. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft and mushy.
  2. Make the dhokli: In a bowl, combine the wheat flour with salt and water to form a smooth batter. Heat a steamer and grease a plate with oil. Pour the batter onto the plate and steam for 10-12 minutes or until cooked through. Let it cool completely.
  3. Assemble the dal dhokli: Heat oil in a pan and add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for a few seconds until fragrant. Add the cooked dal and mash it slightly with a ladle. Add salt to taste and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Cut the dhokli:Cut the steamed dhokli into diamond shape and add them to the simmering dal. Cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until the dhoklas are heated through and the flavors are well-combined.
  5. Garnish and serve:Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
