Chole Bhature is a popular North Indian dish that is loved by people of all ages. It is a perfect combination of spicy chickpeas (chole) and fluffy fried bread (bhature). This dish is usually served for breakfast or lunch, but it can be enjoyed at any time of the day.
The chole is made by simmering chickpeas in a flavorful tomato-based gravy. The bhature are made from leavened dough that is deep-fried until golden brown and puffy. The combination of the spicy chickpeas and the soft, fluffy bhature is simply irresistible.

  1. Make the Chole:
  2. Pressure cook the chickpeas until they are soft.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When they splutter, add onion, garlic, and ginger. Saute until the onion turns golden brown.
  4. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Saute for a few seconds.
  5. Add tomato puree and cook until the oil separates.
  6. Add the pressure-cooked chickpeas and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the gravy thickens.
  7. Season with salt to taste.
  8. Make the Bhature:
  9. Mix all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, yogurt, and oil in a bowl. Add water gradually and knead into a soft dough.
  10. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  11. Roll out the dough into small balls.
  12. Roll each ball into a circle.
  13. Heat oil in a deep pan.
  14. Fry the bhature until they are golden brown and puffy.
  15. Serve:
  16. Serve the hot chole with the hot bhature. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  17. Tips:
  18. For a spicier chole, add more red chili powder.
  19. You can also add chopped green chilies to the chole for extra heat.
  20. To make the batter extra fluffy, add a pinch of baking soda to the dough.
  21. Serve the chole bhature with a side of pickled onions or yogurt.
